The new facilities of the consulting engineer IMD has recently opened in Rotterdam in an industrial environment. Located in a former steel mill, the architect Joust Ector Hoisted Architects transformed this space into a ‘playground for engineers’.

The striking ship attractive exposed steel structure was divided into two floors up to the maximum advantage. Different conference areas were introduced and linked together by various walkways and stairs.

On the walls were made that open new windows overlooking the outdoor landscape, while providing the space for daylight.

The unusual location for office meeting and encourages participation, leaving a feeling and a different perspective on each part of the building.

The air conditioning was limited to minimize energy consumption. Maximum use of sunlight and the use of recycled building that space did extremely sustainable.

Thus the structure of steel, concrete floors and the façade is maintained and cleaned only, while the new elements introduced adapted to the industrial look like ladders needed timber, glass and plastic panels.
